because...why not?
I got this from google.
# Do you cook all or part of the meal? My mother makes lumpia (filipino eggrolls) for appetizers and apple pie for dessert. since i am mostly a failure when it comes to cooking, i generally don't make or even help with anything, but last year i managed to make a decent strawberry pie so i will probably be doing that again this year.
# How much do you spend buying groceries for the meal? i have no idea. never been in charge of it. i'd guess it's well over $100 though.
# Do you eat at home or go to someone else’s? the tradition on my father's side of the family is to have the eldest daughter host Thanksgiving, so my family and i have always gone to my aunt's house for Thanksgiving. i don't know when that will change, tbh. probably not for a good long while from what it looks like, which is just fine by me.
# Describe your perfect bite? Stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy and pepper, and some cranberry sauce on top~
# White meat or dark? DARK ALL THE WAY
# Stuffing with giblets or without? Just a little bit...
# Anything you won’t eat at the Thanksgiving meal? Oysters.
# Carve Mr. Gobble at the table or serve on a platter? Plattered. There's no way anyone could properly carve a turkey at the tables because there's no room.
# Favorite pie? PEANUT BUTTER AND ICE CREAM ♥
# Formal table or Chinet? i...can't...remember...?
# Your menu: Like, what I eat there? There's a lot of stuff i pass over or is not there every year.
-Mashed potatoes
-Stuffing
-Cranberry sauce
-Turkey slices (dark :)
-Cinnamon-pecan rolls
-Broccoli w/ cheese
-Stuffed tomatoes
-As much pie as i can stuff in my overfilled tummy~
# Favorite leftover? Stuffing, cranberry sauce and turkey sandwich. normally we would not have the leftovers for this, but my mom solved this problem one year by basically cooking a little thanksgiving dinner after real thanksgiving dinner, so we get NOTHING BUT leftovers for like a week.
# Extended family, friends, both or just the immediate family for dinner? Extended family with an open invitation to new significant others who are feeling brave enough to take on our whole family. it's kind of a litmus test for relationship seriousness.
# After dinner, do you go to the latest movie or watch football on TV or just a turkey induced snooze? football on teevee, but most of the time the dinner runs so late that once the pie is done people start heading home.
# Do you watch the Macy’s Parade? no.
# Christmas decorations up before or after? we put up Christmas decorations when we both remember to do so and have the motivation to actually put them up. This usually happens 2 weeks before Christmas, but sometimes later. One year we never got around to putting them up. Another year we never got around to taking them down so we just dusted off what was already there.
# Black Friday shopping or sleep in? i've done Black Friday shopping before. the shopping itself is okay, but the traffic destroys me. i think i am going to sleep in this year.
# Any special Thanksgiving tradition? we have an eating contest every year. it started when my sister, who is a petite 5'2 and 115 or so pounds, challenged my 6' wrestling-team cousin to an eating contest, and then spread to basically everyone. there's a very carefully conducted weigh-in and uh, weigh-after, (whoever gains the largest percentage of their body weight wins) and the winner gets a special turkey trophy! it's a pretty great way to feel awesome about gaining weight.
# Favorite thing about Thanksgiving? i like spending time with my cousins, who i don't get to see very often these days, without the pressure of having to do something. it's nice to have a day where we can just talk and play stupid board games and eat too much pie and drink milk out of really old plastic He-man cups.
# Favorite Thanksgiving memory? Every year we play a board game and some old video games in my aunt's basement. The best board/video game combo was the year we played Dragonstrike, a board-game version of Dungeons and Dragons that came with, among other things, a terrible 30 minute VHS instructional video to get players in the proper 'mood' for playing. Nobody could be bothered to read through the extensive rulebook so we ended up making up 90% of the rules as we tried to play along, it was PRETTY AWESOME. We followed Dragonstrike up with some old school NES Tetris in co-op mode. if you have never played co-op Tetris, you should be informed that it is fucking impossible. we did not know this at the time and our experience was filled with much yelling and throwing of pillows. Good times!
