I know it's common to associate songs with characters and ships but I've not done that personally for a long time. A lot of it comes down to the fact that my musical tastes tend towards light and cheerful dance pop while my fictional preferences are sad gay morally grey pretty boys getting in terrible relationships, which isn't the most natural fit for fanmix things.

BUT!!! yesterday I was listening to a kpop ballad, Red Velvet's One of these Nights and when it got to this verse I screamed internally because OMG IT'S LUTHERUNA. THESE ARE THE FEELINGS THIS SHIP IS MEANT TO EVOKE!! An all too brief moment of joy in incalculably long lives, the significance of which is not fully grasped until long after is it gone... 😭 I had a moment for sure.

I've wanted to do some general character/pairing analysis lately--to go over the emotions, conflicts, and themes I see as central to understanding them--so idk maybe you'll see some more "image songs" posted about my faves while I plug away at kinkfic. or not! i really shouldn't keep making work for myself like this ;p

Man I want to work on some gay AUs (and some more general Varuna-in-NGS ideas) but i have put waaaay too much on my plate this month...... ;o;

did u know....this is the only cutscene where Luther and Varuna are next to each other. i can't even say they speak to each other because they're talking to the Guardian about the kingdoms of Omega. i suppose you could count Luther's additional comments to Varuna's overview as a kind of conversation...

anyway!!! this lack of canon material has not stopped me from imagining an entire years-long secret affair between them......in fact i feel like seeing them stand next to each other makes the appeal clear. like it should be obvious that the hot smug elf prince should smash the grumpy elf knight. that's how the math works obviously.

also it's very funny that the staging makes it look like Varuna is almost Luther's height when in fact he's like 20cm shorter. very nice of Luther to bring a box for his boytoy to stand on while they spout exposition at the Guardian :3
