Absolute favorites:
Lúcio Correia dos Santos
SO when i first got Overwatch, just going by what I had seen on tumblr, I figured my favorites would be cyborg ninja (coz Borderlands) and mecha pilot (coz cute gamer gril) but then Lúcio came skating into my life with his Postitive Mental Attitude, perfect voice, boy-band good looks and i fell in love. i am still in love. he is best boy and i love his backstory and am GUTTED there hasn't been any new info about him except for two short interactions with Mercy and Symmetra added during the Anniversary event that indicated Lúcio's father worked for Vishkar, which is AN INCREDIBLE DEVELOPMENT TBH but there hasn't been any follow up since, so :(
I ship him with literally everyone but i like him best with Reinhardt (shut up Lúcio is 26 he can date older men if he wants and they're super adorable with each other in-game), Doomfist (the art and fic is extremely good OKAY) and either of the Shimada brothers. Genji/Lúcio is relatively popular; I desperately wish there was more Hanzo/Lúcio which is kinda weird because I don't really like Hanzo on his own but like, i think someone like Lúcio would be good for him lol. Also D.va/Lúcio as BFFs and Lúcio/Symmetra as like a hate/rivalship.
I don't have a lot of headcanons for Lúcio besides "there is no way in hell this boy is straight, a virgin, or shy when it comes to relationships and sex." Also he's pro-Omnic and has definitely dated/fucked a robot at least once in his life.
D.va
I like her for the reasons everyone else likes her lol. Cute, confident, relatable gamer girl, S-tier voice line spam to make the enemy team rage, extremely memeable. I loved the Shooting Star cinematic even if it didn't explain why D.va is working with Overwatch (well, I guess we don't know who is and who isn't working for Overwatch even now...lol) I don't really ship her with anyone yet as nothing in her interactions has piqued my interest, although I do like a lot of the Brig/D.va fanart and non-shippy Soldier 76 stuff that focuses on the interaction between an old and new soldier.
Mei
I HAVE A LOT OF STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT MEI, given that i am a very scatterbrained (half) Asian chubby girl, and it still embarrasses me to say this but seeing someone like me in a game about heroes, that other people respond to positively (devil!Mei meme aside) ...it's validating in a way i never really experienced before. I went all-in on cosplaying Mei at conventions last year and I've been refining/adding to it since, and the whole process has been so wonderful. I don't really seek out fic/art or ship her with anyone, possibly due to how strongly i relate to her.okay i like Zarya/Mei a lot, Zarya is dream girlfriend material 💦💦💦
Ana
HER ORIGIN STORY MADE ME CRY it's the only one i've watched several times, I just find it really affecting. We need more fictional grizzled war grannies. I love that she's a sniper alchemist who decided to use her incredible combat abilities to save people in what i assume is the most painful way possible lol. I'm a terrible person who hate!ships her with Widowmaker. I headcanon that Widowmaker had awful, painful one-sided crush on Ana when she was Amelie and that it turned into an obsession after the brainwashing and reprogramming by Talon, because Ana is literally the only person Widowmaker reacts to with true intensity and emotion. ("Look at you, a shell of a woman...")
I like but don't think too deeply about yet: Zenyatta, Genji, Reaper, Zarya, Reinhardt, Moira, Pharah, Mercy, Orisa, Doomfist, Sombra, Widowmaker, Symmetra, Tracer, Bastion
Neutral: Brigitte, Soldier: 76, Roadhog, Winston, Wrecking Ball
Mild dislike: Hanzo, McCree, Torbjorn, Junkrat
D.va: My comfort-pick, she's by far my best and most consistent character. I tend to be on the aggressive side and focus on neutralizing threats that D.va is best suited to shut down (snipers, Pharah), keeping my main tank partner safe, and stopping key abilities with defense matrix...I admit I'm not great at peeling for supports and I wish I was more consistent at stopping enemy ults, and had better self-destruct usage.
Tracer: She's the only DPS I feel truly confident on and even though I'm only gold/platinum I'm proud of how well I play her compared to others that I run across. She has also gotten me the most hate mail orz ...at least it's from the other team.
Mercy: I SUCKED with Mercy for my first 3 seasons of competitive play but after the Valkyrie rework....I still managed to suck with her lol. It was only after several Resurrect nerfs that I started to understand and utilize her properly. I still think she's good after her heals got nerfed although it's much more situational than before. I also enjoy playing this 'version' of her, maybe because it *is* harder to maximize her usefulness and I feel very engaged/locked-in when I'm doing well with her.
Lúcio: He's actually the character I have the highest winrate with, but for the past few seasons in ranked I haven't played him very much. I got really discouraged because I was having a hard time getting value out of, well, everything he can do! It just felt like every other Lucio I encountered played him better. But I've been trying to practice more this season because he's so strong when utilized properly. But I'm still garbage at wall-riding and getting boop kills... (on the other hand, my accuracy with his primary fire has been really good recently?!)
Mei: I actually get the most compliments when I play Mei?! She is my go-to for Assault maps and Eichenwald defense because her ice walls are so useful in working the chokepoints...I am REALLY happy with the recent buff to icicle shot as well, as it allows Mei to put some pressure on snipers and build up Blizzard faster.
I've been working on: Ana, Moira, Widowmaker, Zarya, Roadhog....I don't know if should specialize in off-tank, support, or try deepening my DPS pool :/ I'm way too indecisive about these things.
