So, I've had a few issues in Pokémon Y recently. These problems are mostly due to me not understanding type matchups and 'making pokémon friendly' mechanics as well as a pokémon master should. But instead of just googling it I have decided to shout into the endless void of the internet in the hopes that perhaps a wandering TRUE Pokémaster will hear my cry and help in my struggles.
Or um, I just wanted to talk about Pokémon.
Anyway! My team is roughly level 40 right now and I'm at the uh...I can't remember the name, but I have to go find whatever's wrong in a frost cavern or something? And uh, I can't remember what is strong and what's weak against Ice. Like, I know Fire is strong to Ice and Grass is weak to it, and Dragon is also weak, I think? But the rest of the types: NO CLUE. Man, I should really look up a type matching chart but whatever.
Also: HOW DOES FRIENDSHIP WORK??? I have a Chingling that I want to evolve into a Chimecho (I think Chimecho is cute and I had one in Pearl that I took all the way to the end of the game, so I'd like to have a new one). To evolve, I'm supposed to have Chingling level up at night with high friendship. I've maxed out its Affection meter in Poké-Aimé, and had it level up multiple times at night, and it just stays a Chingling. :C Which is cute enough, but it's a little itty bitty bell and I need it to be a slightly larger bell so it can actually hurt things. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Chingling, why do you hate me? I just want you to be the best bell you can be! ;_;
I'm going to walk around Kalos with Chingling while it's holding a Soothe Bell now, in hopes that it will eventually like me enough to evolve. Incidentally, this means my little living bell is carrying around another bell which amuses me a lot. Possibly more than it should. But, I think Pokémon is best enjoyed by embracing your silly feelings about your virtual pets. NO SHAME.

If I could draw I would totally draw little Chingling hanging out with an oversized Soothe Bell. Actually, I might draw it anyway: it is a subject that screams for MS Paint, I think. XD

Letting it faint will decrease it, as well as using items that tell you that pokemon might not like the taste. There's also a lady who will massage your pokemon which increases friendship, I think you can do that once a day.
Ice is weak against Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel. Don't ask me why. It's super effective against Grass, Ground, Fighting, and Dragon. I don't have the type charts memorized so I just wrote out a little type chart that I carry around if I'm going to be playing Pokemon haha.
And yes I have super huge levels of emotions about my pokemon. I have a completely terrible Scrafty that I am in LOVE with because of Pokemon Amie. She might have shitty stats but goddammit she is MY Scrafty with shitty stats and I love her and we are best friends. Scruffy lizard babby.
I also think I've spent more money on new socks in this game than on pokeballs.

Date: 2014-01-28 03:48 am (UTC)From:Making a type chart might be the way to go. I've been using the Bulbapedia to look up weaknesses and resistances for specific pokémon, so I don't throw out a Dark type against a Fairy, for example, but that doesn't always help when I'm looking for what's super-effective on offense. And I don't always have access to Bulbapedia when I'm playing... ~o~
The changes to the battle dialog when you have super-affectionate pokémon actually make me do things I normally wouldn't. Like, when it says my ninja frog might cry because he's at low health I go NOOOOOOOOOooooooOO and heal him right away, instead of switching out or letting him faint like I would have in older games. I just...I can't let them down! They tough it out for me! ;___;

I...I actually used the game notes feature to write down what was good for the gym I was going to next /o\ Bulbapedia should tell you what each type is super-effective against, though.
