Seeing as it's officially winter in the Northern Hemisphere, have some frost flowers! [source]

And now for something completely different: a fandom year-end review.
Your main fandom of the year?
Uh, I dunno? There were a lot of things I obsessed over. Soulcalibur V took up a lot of my free time, even though I didn't mention it much in this journal. (I do have a whole bunch of half-finished fic that I'm tooashamed spacey to finish; it might make an appearance before
kink_bingo's amnesty round ends.) I think I would have talked about Puella Magi Madoka Magica a lot more if I'd known where to look for discussion and fic. Ditto for the Avengers/Marvel fandom, which somehow managed to be everywhere and nowhere for me. I mean, when it came to gifs, delirious squee, and fluffy fic for pairs I don't ship and characters I'm not interested in, the Avengers fandom delivered in spades, but finding thoughtful, sustained discussion and fic relevant to my (admittedly weird and somewhat narrow) interests was difficult. Blazblue Chronophantasma's arcade release has gotten me super-excited about the series again, but it happened pretty late in the year.
Your favorite film you watched this year?
Avengers was pretty awesome. But I think I had the most fun watching Resident Evil Retribution because it had a slew of poorly considered ideas that it nevertheless fully and lovingly embraced. Also, I thought the fight in the white corridor was legitimately more interesting, visually, than nearly all of the action scenes in the Avengers. /o\
Your favorite book read this year?
Naomi by Junichiro Tanizaki really stuck with me. I also enjoyed Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. It was my second Mieville book and I liked it a lot more than Kraken--I'll probably look into more of his work.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
What's In Your Head, Disclosure.
And Gangjam Style (Gangnam Style + Space Jam theme mashup) because reasons.
Your favorite TV show of the year?
The Venture Brothers Halloween Special was pretty sweet.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Okay. So. My brother is a Marvel fan, and until this year I generally got all of my Marvel knowledge and reading material from him. (DC I follow on my own.) He's more of an X-men fan, and while he likes some of the Avengers (Captain America, Hulk, Captain Marvel) he's never liked Thor. By association I didn't have much interest in Thor, either. I liked his solo movie, but it didn't spark any desire to buy any related comics.
ANYWAY. After seeing the Avengers I was all over Thor and Loki, so at the suggestion of my local comic book shop I read Walter Simmonson's run and it was amazing, one of the best arcs I've read in comics.
So yeah, that was a pretty great discovery.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I don't think Resident Evil 6 deserves the 'worst video game EVAR!!!11!' label it sometimes gets, but from a story consideration, I feel like it leaves most of the characters in a worse place than they began in, (exceptions for Sherry) and the addition of Neo-Umbrella/'The Family' is embarrassingly bad.
Also annoying: you have to be wholly supportive or totally against 6 in Resident Evil fandom, apparently. THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND. Sigh.
Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
This doof.

Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
It was hard picking just one lady, but ultimately I had to go with Noel Vermillion, the poet of our generation.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
BLAZBLUE CHRONOPHANTASMA. I have lost all ability to consider this series with any sort of objectivity. Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts--not even the questionable female character artwork. (To be fair,
gemais was right about Noel's outfit looking much nicer in-game. :)
The most missed of your old fandoms?
I'm disappointed that SCV didn't spark much interest in people. Phantasy Star Universe shutting down its servers gave me a case of the sads, too, even though I barely played it in the last two years. Now I understand what people mean when they say they miss their MMO characters. :(
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
THIS YEAR. THIS YEAR I'LL CONQUER YOUR MOUNTAINS OF TEXT, TYPE-MOON.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
Oh GOSH. So many things to look forward to! The console release of Blazblue Chronophantasma, the Remember Me video game (thanks to
weber_dubois for the heads up) the Sailor Moon remake, the Rebuild of Evangelion finishing up, Majokko Classical and Prism Nana (thanks to
sirvalkyrie for mentioning them, because I am horrible at following upcoming anime releases), Man of Steel (Clark Kent is my original comics boyfriend) and Thor: The Dark World...and I know there's a whole bunch of stuff I'm missing.
It's looking like a good year to be a dork.

I read and enjoyed Mieville's Un Lun Dun, but I haven't tried any of his adult works yet. Maybe I'll have to give them a shot.
AND I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN WITH TYPE-MOON. So interesting looking, so intimidating to get into. I wouldn't even know where to start, haha.
...I've no idea whatsoever what sort of context could possibly explain that second screenshot, and I'm not sure I want to. It's sort of a beautiful thing all on its own.
