So there's been some news about Soulcalibur V lately. (Yes, I still ♥ this series desperately. It's just been quiet for awhile ;o )
What I've gathered from the various releases, interviews, leaks, and rumors:
-The game takes place 17 years after SCIV
-Patroklos and Pyrrha haven't grown up together. It sounds like Patroklos knows of Pyrrha's existence, but Pyrrha doesn't know about Patroklos. It's not clear if Pyrrha knows about Sophitia being her mother, either.
-Sophitia died from Soul Edge's corruption (!) Rothion raised Patroklos, but prior to the start of V died of illness (?) Nothing on what's happened to Cassandra, or if she'll even be in the game.
-Ivy is in the game and hasn't aged physically because offanservice her connection to Soul Edge.
Aaand that's about it, story-wise. The only new game features are a charge gauge that seems to act like the super bars in lots of 2D fighters - you can use the bar to change move properties and access moves that aren't normally available - and something called a 'Critical Edge' which seems very...shiny. Guard crushes are still in, and the game as a whole is supposed to be faster.
I am cautiously optimistic about the game - the 17-years-later concept is shaping up about as well as it can, given that it's inevitable that some popular characters won't be around any more. At least in Sophitia's case (the character closest to a definite no-show) her fate is central to the narrative being developed, so her loss has some real weight and consequence to it. She's not being dropped for the hell of it.
It's pretty clear that the developers haven't decided on who will and won't be in the game yet, but the current info says they're aiming for 20~30 characters, half of which will be new, meaning somewhere around 10~15 old characters will be returning. For those who weren't around when this journal was essentially ALL SC, ALL THE TIME, I'm hoping very much for Raphael and Amy to return, though if I have to choose I'd go with...Amy...? As a character she has more room for development than Raphael does, assuming they don't off Raphael by like, I dunno, having him go totally off the walls and leaping off a cliff. But, having Raphael die or taken out of commission by Soul Edge induced...stuff...would open the doors for a lot of Amy character fun. LIKE REVENGE! Or something. I dunno. I'd still like both of them rather than just one. Also, Raphael without Amy around as a driving force seems um...impossible. So I suspect whatever happens, she'll be aroundfor gothic lolita fanservice
On a completely shallow note, Patroklos is pretty adorable. Now that Siegfried is all ~manly~ I may have to transfer my creepy fangirling over younger men to Sophitia's kid. Which sounds even creepier when I type it out. :o

Heh, I don't like the idea of everyone getting old (and Siegfried now with...slicked back hair? xD) but there's nothing wrong with fangirling over younger guys if they're supposed to be legal anyway. *cough* Not that I'm really in love with pixels or anything >__>

Date: 2011-06-15 09:12 pm (UTC)From:I do hope they get at least one genuinely new fighting style in. So far it's two variations on Sophitia, Siegfried and Mitsurugi (and Ivy, though she hasn't been confirmed officially).
I like Siegfried's concept art, even though it makes go HELLO FFXII, but yeah, the in-game model is kind of disappointing. But, all that's been shown are demo screens so it's likely they'll do some model tweaking before the game's finished.
