i've never done a fic rec before, but there's this really great Watchman/Dark Knight crossover drabble that kind of blew my mind today and i have to share it:
Like Father
(no warnings, no spoilers - but familiarity with Watchmen and the Dark Knight version of the Joker necessary)
the concept & execution is simply amazing. like, when/if the Nolanverse Batman movies have another installment, this fic will be in the back of my head, quietly becoming canon.

1. Reply to this meme by yelling "HEY
m_aenea!", and I will give you five words that remind me of you.
2. Then post them in your journal and explain what they mean to you.
3. Keep in mind that if I don't know you that well, your words might end up kind of odd or weird.

Left 4 Dead
so, i don't think i'm exaggerating when i say this may be the most important game series ever released. the zombie apocalypse is not merely a hypothesis - no, my internet pals, it's inevitable, unless the robot and/or octopus uprisings usurp it - and Left 4 Dead, the world's premier zombie attack simulator, should be required playing for any and all humans who intend to survive the upcoming plague.
it's also fun as hell and has a faaaaaabulous fanbase that encourages and (for the most part) acceptsmadness creativity of all sorts. Left 4 Dead 2's only been out a few months but i haven't had this much fun with a game and the people who play it since, oh, Dead or Alive (until that community descended into a festering cesspool of SRS BSNS.)

IS MAI WAIFU~
i mean uh
i like her lot; i thought she was super-hot in her concept art (i'll admit her finalized version is somewhat less hot, the long dreads were sweet, but i'd still hit it if she'd let me X) and my news-loving-self likes that she's a TV producer. i know a lot of people find her boring, but honestly i like that for once, there's a black woman in popular media who isn't a stereotyped sass machine, and plays the role of straight (wo)man for the group for a change. in a game like L4D, where exaggeration is the name of the game, it's almost inevitable that she come off as bland, i suppose...but i appreciate her normalcy. (also, combing through the voice files she does have some killer lines BUT i have never gotten them in-game and i play Ro like, 75% of the time AT LEAST and this bugs me :| )
Phantasy Star Universe
i have the worst love/hate with this game. i've been a fan of Sega's Phantasy Star RPG series and i genuinely enjoy this current, online installment - i love the 'sci-fi anime' environment, the fun and remarkably customizable character creation, the combat system, the job classes...
BUT.
Sega's management is HORRENDOUS. the game is SUPPOSED to have content updates every two weeks, but they have never, ever been able to keep to that time table in the states - in 2008, there were no major content updates for nearly six months straight. when updates do come, there is almost always a bug requiring a fix that usually comes a week or more after its discovery. and by almost always, i mean i honestly can't remember an update NOT having an issue since 2007.
the game itself is fun, but Sega's incompetence makes it really hard to enjoy the game and justify the $10 monthly charge. unfortunately it's also one of those games that's like crack once you've played it long enough, and i can't quite bring myself to quit it, especially since quite a few good friends still play it regularly.
oh woe is me, and my inability to control my gaming addictions. :(
DJ Hero
i don't know if i like this particular DJ simulation game as much as Konami's Beatmania IIDX series or EZ2DJ, but it's still great fun (also, much easier, which i appreciate XD )and the soundtrack is mostly excellent. there are a few duds - oh god, whoever made the Jackson 5/Third Eye Blind mashup needs to be shot - but then you hear something that makes 50 Cent not merely bearable, but fantastic, and everything's cool again.
PS imma be a DJ Hero by the end of year d^_^b
video game music
i like it a lot. as in, have 15 gigabytes of game-related music on my computer levels of like o.O
i blame Konami's Bemani games for a lot of it - the music from the BeatmaniaIIDX series makes up 5 gb alone, and the artists who compose it also release independent albums on top of that - but i have lots from other series and composers too. there are just so many different genres and interesting artists working in the field and i love listening to what they produce. :3
and finally: i know like...a week ago or so, i was playing a game of L4D and somehow, the topic of Ohio and its related suckiness came up, and i said i was going to post something HILARIOUS about Ohio and specifically, Cleveland, but i completely forgot about it until today.
so without further ado: Cleveland tourism videos.
the second, EVAN BETTAR! video has embedding disabled so i can't post it here, but i strongly urge any and all viewers to see it on teh youtubes:
