my capture card is working a little better now
so i decided to take pictures of the video game that is currently ruining my social life this week: Phantasy Star Universe.
my card isn't meant to cap video game stuff, so the quality's pretty low, unfortunately.

first up: characters and rooms! in PSU, your room is where you start when you first log in, and is where you store your items. if you have more than one character created, (a PSU account has 4 available character slots) then you can swap items between them here as well.
it's also possible to decorate your room with different themes and furniture items. depending on how much fake moneys and real, hard time you're willing to put into, room decorating can get pretty elaborate.
this is my 'main' character, Aenea, and her room. it's super-girly and is also host to a monster tea party. :]
the little person whose head is getting excavated is a Mimic Doll. when you touch it and type something in, the Doll will repeat it every time someone visits your room.
Next is Tsugaru, a teeny-tiny robot girl with a room modeled after a strawberry shortcake.
i have two other characters, both males, but i was lazy and didn't bother screencapping their rooms. :p
anyway! PSU also encourages the fine pasttime of gambling with a casino:

and now, some actual fighting. currently PSU is running an 'event mission,' a limited-time area that offers increased experience and super special awesome items.
the area boss fight is also a giant flying vagina.

when you take away enough damage from the boss, itsvagina face falls off to reveal this:

glowing purple bukkake laser?!?! D:
victory cinematic! it's a bit anticlimatic.
i also tried capping some video to see if the sound quality improved at all - rather than stick the cables into the audio port directly, i piped it through the TV's headphone jack. the first video seemed fine, if a little tinny:
voice-chat comes through, though the game audio is much louder. in PSU there is a music volume adjuster in the options menu to counter this; i'm still not sure what to do with games that don't have such an option.
later on i tried to cap one of the boss fights. this was much less successful.
the audio is decent until roughly the 20 second mark, when it explodes into static again. :( i don't know what caused it - i think gunfire-type sounds are still troublesome for the device to cap. i plan on trying a few other fixes tonight...hopefully one of them will be successful.
...or maybe i should just get an actual, quality capture card. :p
Other, non-PSU nerd notes:
-after waffling for awhile, i posted Sweet Peanut (the one and only Lil' Peanut/Nick fic!) to ff.net. it's a little different from the draft i posted on LJ, but not significantly so.
i have the second and third chapters written but i need to do some serious editing before they are post-worthy. since i'm a hideously lazy person, you'll PROBABLY see them around the end of February....of next year. (j/k, j/k!...probably)
-i started playing Plants vs. Zombies on Steam, because it's one of the few games my laptop can run. i guess if you have Steam and also PvZ you can add me to your friends list? i'm terabient there.

PvZ doesn't have multiplayer on steam but you get steam achievements XD i don't have many games on Steam, just PvZ and an indie game called The Path.
