sooo, desktop computer is still fucked. it is being fixed and should be ready to go on Monday/Tuesday, but still, FAAAAAAIL. :[
ANYWAY. a very kind Anon sent me a Dreamwidth invite code! i wasn't sure what to put there first - it struck me as pointless to make *another* fic/fandom journal, even though there are communities and discussions at DW that aren't mirrored on LJ.
so, after some not-very-deep thought, i've decided to post each entry of the "Daily Doodle" calendar my brother gave me for Christmas there. it's mostly for the benefit of my family, but if you'd like to check out my SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME STICK FIGURE PICTURES you can find them here:
http://terabient.dreamwidth.org
thanks again, Mystery Invite-giving Person! (ALSO. i have one invite code i can send if someone wants to join DW.)
and after that plug, it's time to switch gears completely:
had a really weird...thing...happen in Versus last night. Actually, the whole thing started a few nights ago; things just got really strange and frustrating recently.
I joined a random game a few days ago; I join an infected team on the fourth stage of Hard Rain. The survivor team had done well but were still behind at that point, and they didn't get far enough to overtake the lead the infected team had. We won, but it wasn't like, a huge victory or anything - it was a fairly close game, something like a 200 pt difference.
Afterwards in the lobby, we talked to the other team - three guys and one girl, who was the lobby leader. They were all very polite and took the loss in stride because hey, sometimes you lose. Anyway, it wasn't clear if they were planning to start another match at the time, so one of the people on my team asked if they'd begin another game.
Then everyone on the infected team got booted from the lobby. At the time, I didn't think much about it, and certainly didn't take it personally - the other team hadn't seemed upset at all, and if they'd been planning to start a friends-only game, then kicking out the other team is is much faster than creating a new lobby and sending out invites, or explaining to the other team that they need to leave, especially if some of them have expressed interest in staying.
I received friend requests from the lobby leader and one of the other players, too, and i figured they wouldn't send a request if they were rage-booting and all.
Anyway, after this mild weirdness, the girl (well, girl's a bit misleading - she mentioned being married, so!) sent me a Versus invite last night, and since i didn't have anything else to do, I took it. It was a friends-only lobby with 6 people; i stayed Random because i wasn't sure what the other player's preferences were. The lobby leader said she'd choose for me, and I ended up on the infected team. I'm not entirely sure how she did this because I wasn't paying attention at the time, but i think she just started then cancelled the match before it hit the loading screen, so that anyone still on 'Random' would switch to an open character.
so at this point there were only two people on the infected team, myself and one other person I'd never met before; the lobby starts the match then, which made for some pretty lopsided teams. The lobby leader hadn't said anything prior the start of the match, so I didn't know if she was going for Versus achievements or something.
ANYWAY me & the other guy manage to do pretty well, all things considered; we caused something like, six incaps before the other team made it to the safe room which is not bad when working with only two infected. We didn't do badly as the survivors, either, although I did screw up everything by getting shoved out of the window next to the elevator. I didn't even get pulled out - a jockey jumped on another survivor but it was close enough to push me out of the window. lol.
(I should mention, belatedly, that the map was Dead Center.)
In any case, after the first stage the score was...360-ish to 500, since their entire team managed to clear and i died half way. X) I didn't mind much at that point because I was kinda surprised we were doing that well against a full team, heh.
So, in the second stage we started as infected again, caused EVEN MOAR incaps and ended up taking them out just before they could get to the gun store - we got a tank, though, so that helped a lot. :] When we switched over to infected we booked it out of the safe room as fast as possible, considering we had to drag around two bots, and the infected team made the mistake of always spawning BEHIND us rather than running ahead. We got to the point where the tank spawns and took it out without any incaps or even much damage...
...and then the lobby leader and two other players quit. One guy stayed to finish the second stage; at that point, I told my other teammate I was leaving, too, because a two-on-one versus game didn't sound like much fun, and besides, it was getting pretty late.
Just before I turned off my xblox i went to check what the girl who had quit was doing.
She was in another friends-only versus lobby. :p
I really don't know what to think. Like, I dunno if she was having connection problems (unlikely, as her connection showed up as green, but you never know) and just started a new lobby after getting disconnected, or if she was just sore about not doing well. I kinda get the feeling I should be offended or something but I just don't know what she was doing. I mean...I wouldn't think much of getting booted from a lobby after a match, or dropping out mid-game, or even starting with uneven teams, because all of these things have happened to me before...but never in a relatively short amount of time, all due to the same person.
I admit I might be a little biased. When I first got Xbox Live I used to play with a bunch of girls on one of those all-female gaming clans and there were a lot of players there who were nice...but only if you never beat them. this kind of reminds me of that. :P
but idk, maybe i'm just reading too much into it.
On a related note, if you've been sending me game invites and I haven't been answering them, it's nothing personal or anything...they just always seem to come when I'm already in another game with people I know, and I hate leaving a game once it's started. So if I haven't played with you in awhile it's not because I SECRETLY HATE YOU...it's because I'm too much of a softy to ditch a group halfway.
ALSO. I really, really want to play some Survival mode soon, like, try to hit silver and gold standard in a few. I also need the 'Beat the Rush' achievement but I need to play the Dark Carnival Stadium map to get it - I've gotten at least a bronze standard in everything else. :(
Unless your best time doesn't matter. Like, I've already gotten gold standard on the Motel map, so I don't think I can use it to get the achievement? But if all I have to do is survive until the 4-minute mark on any map, regardless of the best time gotten before hand, then that would make getting the achievement much easier.
SOOOOO if anyone wants to play some Survival then HIT ME UP, either here or on lolbox live.

Date: 2010-01-03 12:05 am (UTC)From:I remember that original match. Since my husband and I got booted out as well. D: I was kind of confused too, just because it seemed like we were going to play another game, and then everyone gets kicked from it? It was weird. I didn't get any friends requests from her, LOL. Sounds like a case of ragequitting, though. :/ I'd delete her from my friendslist, if she's going to keep acting like that. :P But what the hell, why did she make such lopsided teams to begin with? Is she that desperate to win Versus matches?
I'm the same way about game requests. ^_^;; So don't be offended if I don't take your request all the time!! Either I'm in a game with other friends, or in a good match.
I can maybe help you with survival? I got my achievement by myself with bots, but it was on the bridge stage of the Parish. But any map is fine, since I don't need it anymore. ^_^

Date: 2010-01-03 09:42 pm (UTC)From:the thing is, if she just needed to win Versus games for achievements or something, i wouldn't have minded...but there was no explanation given. just, 'hey, 4 vs 2, GO!'
and we hadn't even gotten that far when she quit. i know it can get discouraging when you go through a really rough patch in VS but it's not like you can't recover from that in a later level. :|
i just don't know if i can get the achievement in a level i've already medal'ed in. if it doesn't matter, it should be easy enough to get but if it does...the only stage i haven't gotten a medal for is the Concert, and that one's really hard. x_X

Date: 2010-01-05 02:41 am (UTC)From:Yeah, strange why she would do that. :/ Sounds like she has some L4D2 issues. Haha. It's funny that you guys actually were able to hold your ground though. That's impressive. :3
I'm pretty sure if you've already gotten say, a bronze medal in a stage, you need silver to get the achievement. If you need me to help, I totally can. I did the concert on my own with bots and almost made it to 4 minutes. I was probably at like 3 minutes and some seconds. So, I bet with human players, it can happen. ^_^

Date: 2010-01-07 01:23 am (UTC)From:i'm actually becoming very fond of bots in Versus. with two, as long as you take the time to make sure they're following you, they can handle all the Special Infected, even if the other team is very good. they don't just have perfect aim...they have perfect, punch SI-in-mid-leap timing too. i honestly think in most cases you'd need to use ALL 4 SI to take down two bots at once. o_O
so it's less about player skill and more about bot-babysitting skills.
i tried to get a bronze medal in the Concert stage with 3 bots and couldn't get past 2:30 or so XD i can't seem to find a decent camping spot! :(
