terabient: Anime-styled profile pic that is kinda, sorta like me (Default)
Have seen this being mentioned elsewhere, but:

There is a new fanfiction archive site, Archive of Our Own. Currently it's invitation only but right now, the site's in open beta so you can easily apply for an invite.

The site is run by fans for fans, and as a result there are not many restrictions on what sort of content can be posted. The management is also very communicative so if you come across problems or have questions about what you ought to be allowed to post you can speak with the people in charge directly.

It also allows users to import their work from other sites (as in, you can import stuff you've already posted to LJ to AO3, without having to reformat anything) and...actually there are lots of features that look really cool but i have no idea how they work yet because i've only been a user for an hour XD

BASICALLY: AO3 seems like a pretty neat fic site, and I encourage anyone who posts fic regularly (or irregularly...or at all...) to check it out and join if you like it!

plus i don't want to be all alone in posting fic about vaguely obscure/small video game fandoms... ^^;

my profile is here. I don't have anything up there yet, though. XD

I like the idea of that site. And the layout. I'm currently Number 311 on their waiting list, but once I get my invite I'll start cross-posting. :)

It would be great if there was a quality filter though. Kind of like the henneth-annun.net for all fics...the place where Sues only exist as ridicule!

I'd do it if I have time...but I'm working hard on the fic(s) now that my computer issues are over and I've got to study to boot. T_T

I started looking for fics in the Henneth Annun story archive, and they've got a lot of really good ones, and of course, mediocre ones...but it really depends on the person reading it, because everyone has their own deciding factors for a good fic. The fics in HASA are accepted by a majority vote of the 9 site admins,but I think the only "real" requirement of the HASA was the presence of a plot or real research (for the articles). I think they do a pretty good job :D

Call this a hunch, but I think HASA was started to promote fanfiction that wasn't a grammatical nightmare, MarySuexHot Elf/Human/Maiar/Valar character-type fic that was filing the fanfiction sites after the movies came out, and had writers that couldn't grasp the story/themes (and instead set up something with another character). I came on the Silmarillion/LOTR ffnet much later and I was really surprised at the amount of OC romances when they were almost non-existent in HA. But you're right. Because of my devotion to the Sue-filter and pretty strict OC filter in HASA, I have yet to find the serious/good OC fics, providing they do exist.

The easy submission seems great :)
I'd love to see the SC fandom established at the site!! Before it gets flooded with the "x_x;" fics that is...
