so uh
i don't know how to say this, but: in my spare time, i am committing genocide.

only 12,195 zombies to go!
and yes, this deserved its own entry. ZOMBIE EXTERMINATION: SERIOUS BUSINESS.

and because i'm in an awfully fannish mood tonight, a meme:
Leave me a pairing [or two] and I'll tell you...
1. Two things that are awesome about it
2. Two things that are not so awesome about it
3. Two ways I'd love to write it

Date: 2009-11-13 09:02 pm (UTC)From:it's an achievement that gives you 20 gamerpoints XD GAMERSCORE: ALSO SERIOUS BUSINESS
there is actually a bit of a cross-game in-joke with the number. pulled from the L4D wiki:
"This is a reference to the game Dead Rising, in which if you kill 53,594 zombies, it grants the "Zombie Genocider" achievement; Frank West, the player, has killed, down to a man, the entire population of Willamette. In order to outdo Dead Rising, Valve included this achievement and added one more to the kill count. The word is also a pun: the suffix "er" usually indicates something that is directly better than the previous (which is the ending of Genocider, although it's a different meaning in that term) while "est" indicates something that is the best. This Achievement is literally a "we are the best" statement."
another, later released zombie game, Prototype, has a similar achievement also but requires 53596 zombies killed.
everything the media says about video games is true. they are turning us into mass murderers....of pixelated zombies.
and meme!
Date: 2009-11-13 09:19 pm (UTC)From:there are a lot of ways the relationship can play out, too. i wouldn't mind seeing fic where Siegfried and Hilde aren't actually a romantic pairing, just working together and being friends or something. or even something weirder just because...there is a lot of potential craziness there. XD
2. there isn't much written/drawn about them. and a lot of what i've seen is very run-of-the-mill, sort of boring princess-and-knight romance stuff, and while i can see why people would do that i don't think that portrayal is very fair to the characters.
3. um um um...I'd like to write something focusing on how Hilde gets her court & kingdom to accept Siegfried. (Especially if she decides to have a long-term relationship or marriage with him.) Wolfkrone probably wouldn't be that hot on the idea of their queen shacking up with the guy who laid waste to their kingdom and all.
And maybe more 'Siegfried discovers Hilde is crazier than anyone expected' fic. XD XD

Date: 2009-11-13 09:36 pm (UTC)From:anywho, meme time!
1. Because one of them is a ninja and the other controls mythical beasts. THERE IS NO NEED FOR ANOTHER REASON but also, they are a good fit personality-wise, Edge really needs someone who isn't afraid to take him down a few pegs (but not in a nasty way) and i think Rydia needs someone who will not bat an eye at the really weird way she grew up (and can take her digs without flinching, either).
2. there is very little fanwork out there, although i've noticed that in request/exchange memes Edge/Rydia is a really common request, which makes one wonder why so few people actually write/draw anything.
this is decidedly FF: The After specific, but their relationship apparently does not change at all in 17 years. not cool, Squeenix. it makes Rydia look either exceptionally clueless (if she still isn't 'aware' of Edge's feelings) or exceptionally callous (if she is, and just doesn't care), while Edge comes off as desperate, and man, there are no desperate ninjas in the history of forever.
3. this may be me looking too hard at a few lines, but in the DS remake it seems like Edge is freaked out, even afraid, of the Eidolons, which is kind of hilarious. an "Edge becomes acquainted with Rydia's monster family" fic is just begging to be written.
i also like the idea of Rydia being clueless regarding social romantic mores and just being wildly inappropriate whenever Edge tries to do something to get her attention. Or better yet, trying something outrageous to get his attention.

Date: 2009-11-14 01:07 am (UTC)From:you can see the very horror movie-esque introduction here and the super-gory introduction to the sequel here. both are full of absurd zombie mayhem.
...i looked around to see if the demo was still available but it isn't. but, you can download the demo for the sequel game from here if you want to see what it's like.

Date: 2009-11-14 03:18 am (UTC)From:1. Older woman/younger man relationships = HOT. especially when said woman is topping. ♥ on a less shallow note, the way their stories intertwine is unique, difficult to reduce to simple, cliche roles and has lots of dramatic potential.
2. um. after SCI there's been very little in the way of canonical encounters which makes me sad. :(
and this is more a complaint against certain posts i've read regarding Sieg/Ivy than the pairing itself, but apparently there are a lot of people who don't like the idea because Ivy's choice of clothing is just tooooo provocative and Siegfried couldn't find that attractive, he's good now! (seriously this is the way in which their 'logic' operates.) :(
3. after SC: Legends i am very fond of the idea of Ivy teaching an eager-but-terribly-inexperienced Siegfried about...intimate relationships. XD
also, how Siegfried/Nightmare managed to convince Ivy to join him in SCI interests me. canon says it's because she wanted to pay him back for animating Ivy Blade but realistically (lol, realism in SC!) there must have been more to it than that. no matter how indebted Ivy might have felt i sorta doubt she'd just say 'sure ok' to killing loads of people.
Siegfried/Raphael -
1. squealing fangirl alert: they're hot. like, outrageously hot. like, 'i'd switch teams to hit that' hot. (both of them~) which, when it comes to slash, is like 99% of the reason to ship anyone?
but seriously, i'm a sucker for rival 'ships - i love reading about pairings that are intimate but aren't romantic at all, i love hate!sex, i love pairings in which canonical interactions have serious undercurrents of dominance/submission.
...i remember reading something about rival pairings in fandom, how there's often a certain dynamic, where one character is obsessed with obtaining something the other character has, and how it's not that hard to see the pursuer's obsession transferring to, or encompassing, the pursued character as well. that idea has always intrigued me and i think it's very possible to read Raphael/Siegfried in that manner.
phew!
2. THERE IS NOTHING NOT AWESOME!...j/k. there isn't a whole lot of Raph/Sieg fic out there, but there are a few that have really silly characterization, where they're written as, er, rather cute and fluffy. the mind boggles. BOGGLES.
there is also a disappointing amount of um, teasing fic. like, there are some mediocre fics that i read that where the author clearly intends to write a whole lot of sex and really that is the only reason to keep reading because the characterization is spotty and the plot doesn't exist, really, but then it ends just as things start to heat up. then i get all upset because i am one of those people who will suffer poor characterization and plotting if there is a promise of hot sex at the end. not delivering on the second part means said fics are all stick and no carrot. :(
3. i'd love to try some AU fic - not TOO AU, not like, 'SC characters in the modern era' but AUs where Siegfried doesn't just abandon Raphael for dead after their fight in SCII, or even something set earlier, like Nightmare laying waste to Rouen before Raphael becomes a fugitive. i'm not even sure i'd write it with the intent to slash them, just - i'd like to see how they'd react to each other at different times in their lives, under different circumstances.
...and i will probably inflict some outrageously PWP smutfic upon the internets at some point. i mean, to some extent i already have, but you know, there could always be more. for me. :p
anyway! this is getting really long, but i AM writing Raphael/Ivy for
