“You cannot keep doing this,” he tells her one day as she is leaving. “--your heart cannot stay split between us forever.”
She doesn't answer him, because her ears are filled with the sound of waves crashing on sun drenched beaches: if this were not the case, she might have heard the fear lurking beneath the threat of his words.
The night wind howls, and she draws her cloak about her tightly. “I'll be back soon,” she says, her voice bright as moonlight shining off the ocean surface. “I just need a little sun.”
“Of course,” he says. When he leans down to kiss her cheek in farewell his lips are dry.

“Is something on your mind,” her sister asks her one day as she is working. “--why, it's like you're somewhere else entirely, these days.”
She blinks, once, as if that might wash the memory of a black castle against an ink-blue sky from her eyes.
“I'm fine,” she says, her voice hollow like the winter wind in a mountain valley. “I think.”

The thing I love about the way you write the pairing is that there's always something deeply sad about it. It's dark, yes, and there's something kind of forbidden and romantic no matter how you approach it, but there's always this sense of foreboding heartbreak and doom behind your interactions between the two, as if to cement the idea that, really, there will never be anything even approaching a happy ending here, but the tragic romance is there just the same. It adds a subtle emotional layer to your writing that really helps anchor it and provide a serious kick to the reader.
On a less formally-stylistic and more fangirly note, I seriously love your writing, and I'm always thrilled to see a new piece from you (especially when it's my OTP [/shallow]). Thanks for sharing. :)

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" is something that's always in the back of my mind when working with Raphael/Cassandra but i always question if i can actually convey that. so, thanks :D
