terabient: Anime-styled profile pic that is kinda, sorta like me (celica: sleepy)
taken from [livejournal.com profile] hamimifk:

1) What Author Do You Own The Most Books By?
Ohhh...i think it's either Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman, or Dan Simmons. or Haruki Murakami...actually i think it's probably Simmons.

2) What Book Do You Own The Most Copies Of?
I have, in various reprints/special editions/anthologies, at least 3 versions of the Dragonlance Chronicles. 4-5 if you count the loose copies of Autumn Twilight and Winter Night.

3) What Fictional Character Are You Secretly In Love With?
in books? hm...I don't know. my journal name is from Aenea in Dan Simmons' Endymion books, but that's more because i like the sound/etymology of it, and not the character.

4) What Book Have You Read More Than Any Other?
i tend to re-read Dragonlance books when i don't have anything new to read, so it's probably the Chronicles.

5) What Was Your Favorite Book When You Were 10-Years-Old?
oof. There was this fantasy series about a princess who doesn't want to get married and so she goes to a dragon to become its prisoner (to discourage princes from courting her), and the dragon she comes across doesn't want a princess because they make really awful servants. But the princess convinces the dragon to take her because she can make desserts, which is kind of important for the dragon because she entertains friends a lot.

it's a pretty awesome series, but for the life of me i can't remember the name of it!

6) What Is The Worst Book You've Read In The Past Year?
Hummm...i was really disappointed with 'Berserk' by Tim Lebbon, and I couldn't finish Larry Niven's 'Ringworld' despite it being a pillar of science-fiction or whatever. :p

7) What Is The Best Book You've Read In The Past Year?
'World War Z' is gonna stick with me for a looooong time. Definitely worth reading.

8) If You Could Tell Everyone You Know To Read One Book, What Would It Be?
'South of the Border, West of the Sun,' by Haruki Murakami - the most devastating unconsummated love story i've ever read.

9) What Is The Most Difficult Book You've Ever Read?
Dostoevsky's 'The Double: A Petersburg Poem.' Painful, almost intolerable reading indeed.

10) Do You Prefer The French Or The Russians?
i'm more familiar with French literature - 'The Double' is the only Russian novel(la) i've read. X) 'The Red and the Black,' 'Candide,' and 'Les Miserables' were all more enjoyable to read.

11) Shakespeare, Milton Or Chaucer?
Oh, this is tough...Shakespeare, for King Lear. and Othello. and sonnets.

12) Austen Or Eliot?
Eliot - 'The Waste Land' and 'The Hollow Men' make up for 'Practical Cats.' :p

13) What Is The Biggest Or Most Embarrassing Gap In Your Reading?
I haven't read anything by Mark Twain. :X

14) What Is Your Favorite Novel?
it's a toss up between Haruki Murakami's 'South of the Border, West of the Sun' or 'Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World.'

15) Play?
King Lear

16) Poem?
'Carrion Comfort,' Gerald Manley Hopkins

17) Essay?
..does Machiavelli's 'The Prince' count?

18) Short Story?
On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning, Haruki Murakami

19) Non-Fiction?
i don't really have a favorite, but I recently finished 'House of Cards: A Tale of Hubris and Wretched Excess on Wall Street,' and i really enjoyed it - despite knowing nothing about Wall Street or finance in general.

20) Graphic Novel?
American - Y! the Last Man, The Walking Dead (yay zombies!)
Japanese (manga) - Ghost in the Shell, Parasyte

21) Memoir?
I've read a few, but i can't recall any right now...haha

22) History?
can i put historical fiction here? cos that would be 'The Terror' by Dan Simmons, about the doomed Franklin Expedition in the Arctic Circle. if not, then 'Ice Blink' by Scott Cookman which is on the same subject but without the supernatural elements. :p

23) Mystery Or Noir?
I don't really read mystery/noir fiction...I think Dan Simmons' 'Drood' counts as both though, and that is a pretty great book.

24) Science Fiction?
oof. Dan Simmons' 'Hyperion' novels (man, he writes everything, huh? lol)

25) Who Is Your Favorite Writer?
right now...Haruki Murakami. I like Richard Russo a lot too, and Dan Simmons (obviously)

26) Who Is The Most Overrated Writer Alive Today?
mmmm, I'd say Dan Brown but i don't think he's garnered much critical acclaim. Dan Koontz...same thing, i think (though he's fared a little better, critics-wise).

...actually, I think Chuck Palahniuk is hideously overrated. he wrote one good novel - Fight Club - and the rest have been one big 'MEH.'

27) What Are You Reading Right Now?
i finished 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' yesterday, i'm not sure what I'll pick up next. I'm HOPING i can pick up 'The Living Dead' from the library tomorrow but if not, I'm leaning towards 'Out' by Kirino Natsuo.
