Today's nablo prompt...
Write about a piece of music that changed your life forever.
So in 2001 I went to my first anime convention ever, and heard this song:
And, to be completely and sincerely honest, it did change my life. Well - encountering Dance Dance Revolution that day changed my life, but I probably wouldn't have been so obsessed with playing it if I hadn't been totally blown away by .59. It was the first song I played, I'm pretty sure I failed it on beginner, and that was all I needed to get hooked.
There's a lot that I've done since then purely because of my arrow-smashing addiction. The relative rarity of the game outside of Japan started me on the path of import gaming and modding, hobbies that have robbed me of thousands of dollars over the years. (But I don't regret it, and if it helps, I'm not buried in hideous piles of debt, seriously. X) More importantly, the search for finding quality arcade DDR machines in New England and elsewhere led me to meet tons of people I wouldn't have met otherwise and travel to places I might not have. (having people willing to split housing/travel costs helps a lot :) And it's my ~hardcore nerdpals~ who have kept in touch with me after college and moving out of Massachusetts, not my college friends (with a few notable exceptions).
BASICALLY
DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION CHANGED MY LIFE
And by association, so did .59
:)
