terabient: (PSO2: Varuna concept art)
A big old messy Casruna...headcanon? Musing? Thoughts on how they’d interact in specific scenarios? This is basically a rambling conversation I have with myself every now and then, as I try to work through a zillion AU fics that will never be finished.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I think Casra has an inner fashionista in him—he modifies the standard Weisse Crune uniform to have a more elegant silhouette, Regle Jacket is custom-made to be, well, as regal as it is practical. On top of that, Regle Jacket has a lot of personal history to it; the mix of Cursed Crune and Void Recorder elements reads as someone who has not only acknowledged the dark origins of his existence, he’s accepted how they were crucial in forming the man he is in the present. Ultimately, Casra is someone who uses fashion to share aspects of himself that he does not want to state outright. (Regle Jacket’s design elements are so subtle that realistically, only his closest friends would pick up on them, and even then, there’s a good chance they wouldn’t, something that’s probably deliberate on Casra’s part.)

By contrast, I think Varuna has never once thought about personal expression though clothing. Varuna’s EP5 uniform is totally devoid of ornamentation; though he’s Hariette’s personal bodyguard and later on, her second-in-command, there is no visual indication that he is any different from Cuento’s soldiers. His EP6 outfit is harder to interpret beyond its obvious similarity to Shiva’s, but the flavor text emphasizes putting aside one’s feelings to become a tool bringing about the desires of his Lord; the stealth-ero qualities (the skintight bodysuit that reveals his slender figure, the heels that end up drawing attention to his hips and thighs) only reinforce his Master/servant relationship with Shiva. Essentially, Varuna is never seen “out of uniform,” a very obvious representation of how he has allowed his “role” as a servant to define his existence.

SO! In any post-EP6 scenario, I think Varuna would struggle to develop an aesthetic sense of his own—he’s seen himself as a servant for so long that he would gravitate to work-like/uniform style outfits, out of sheer habit. Dressing for comfort, or perhaps...even fun? Beyond his comprehension due to a lifehood of trauma :(

Enter a very attractive and well-dressed older newman whose internal conflicts bear striking similarity to Varuna’s own, who, by chance, has been forcibly assigned to work with him. Casra would secretly delight in helping Varuna build a new wardrobe—Casra is fond of acting as a guide/mentor for others, and sharing his phashion expertise with someone who definitely will not mock him for it is an opportunity he can’t ignore. Varuna, for his part, would just be happy beyond belief at receiving someone’s undivided and admiring attention.

Also developing looks with ~personal meaning~ allows both newmans to share some darker parts of their histories indirectly. Given how reserved and discrete both of them can be, phashion therapy works as an ideal screen to get to know each other ;)

PLUS...the inherent eroticism of picking out clothes and being dressed by someone you admire...just imagine Varuna trembling as Casra’s fingertips brush his neck or collarbones, or blushing furiously as Casra rests a hand on his hip...or looking at himself in the mirror and realizing that Casra sees something in him that no one else has before… (´O`)

I keep meaning to write this actual scene but my brain is fried on the best of days, and now in the worst of (work) days it’s burnt to a crisp. Who knows when I will get around to writing Casruna dressing room shenanigans. :(
