so there's a Keyword entry for the summons Luther was trying to accomplish in EP5. From what I remember, the technique Luther is researching is not named in global--it's only referred to as a summoning--but the Material Collection uses a specific phrase, "遡行召喚 / sokō shōkan." It also explains that Luther's first summoning attempt has nothing to do with summoning an omniscient being, which is his goal in his second attempt.
I am unsure if the Fleet translation would offer more clarity on this point, but I'm working on the assumption that this information is something only mentioned in the Material Collection. So I want to be sure to present it as accurately as possible...which is hard to do when you're dependent on MT.
Anyway, from what I can tell Luther's first summons (the one that kills Hariette) is an attempt to return something to its original state, to return to a past time. There's not much else mentioned, but I'm wondering if this means Luther realized Alma tampered with Omega's flow of time and tried to correct it. 🤔

Date: 2023-08-17 03:11 pm (UTC)From:the その到達点は原初の存在を呼び出すことだった sentence appears to be directly linked to the earlier one 肉体と存在をあるべきときまで戻すことを目的とする, so i don't think the term describes luther's two attempts but rather a single explanation for the process
through the 'going back in time and retrieving the thing for it to appear' luther would have attempted to summon an ancient being, which is akashic records - the first being to exist after the universe was created by the great light
also swiki says directly the sokou shoukan is luther's personal (?) term for the process of summoning an omniscient being, but again they can't be absolutely right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Date: 2023-08-20 06:05 pm (UTC)From:I am wondering what the best translation for "soko shoukan" is, since i'm pretty sure global just went with "summons." Machine translation goe with "retroactive summoning," but retroactive means "something that takes effect from a past date" and doesn't really get at what Luther's actually trying to do (summon a being from the past into the present)
