terabient: Ash knocked out, oh no???? (Pokemon: Ash @_@)
...but restores my will to bitch over the internet, I guess. I figure reading about Pokemon breeding is as exciting as actually breeding, i.e. not at all, so

Months ago I tried to breed a Protean Froakie with a timid nature and 6 IVs, which turned out to be a terrible mistake because it sucked away all joy from playing Pokemon Y. Literally, I would look at my 3DS and think "oh god I have so many eggs to hatch and at best the little froakies will have 3 IVs but what's more likely is a bunch of froakies with one HOW LONG WILL THE BREEDING TAKE" and I would find something less tedious to do.

BUT in the past month my brother has crushed me in Pokemon battles so now I have started playing in earnest in order to regain my lost gamer pride, or something. I've given up on getting IVs for every single stat for every single pokemon, because I know my brother doesn't bother too much with IV breeding. For now, I've settled on breeding for egg moves and IVs for the two most important stats for whatever build I'm going for.

My tentative, 3-pokemon team (3v3 is what my brother usually plays):

Venomoth (Timid nature, Shield Dust) @Focus Sash

Sleep Powder
Toxic Spikes
Quiver Dance
Baton Pass

Pretty simple: hope Sleep Powder hits, then toxic spikes, QUIVER DANCING ALL NIGHT, baton pass when the opponent wakes up.

Dragalge (Calm nature, Poison Point) @Black Sludge

Toxic
Venoshock
Acid Armor or Substitute
Dragon Pulse

I can't decide if I want to go with a poison dragon that kills knocks out pokemon with overwhelming poison damage as quickly as possible (Toxic + Venoshock with a high Sp. Atk and STAB = hopefully dead fainted babbus all over the place), or a defensive poison dragon that kills knocks out pokemon slowly (Toxic + Substitute/Acid Armor + Black Sludge HP regen). I guess doing both is...doable, but I'm not sure if a Calm nature is best for that.

Greninja (Timid nature, Protean) @Expert Belt

Scald
Dark Pulse
Extrasensory
Ice Beam

If poison doesn't work, special frog ninja power is my last hope.

Initially I was worried that egg move breeding would destroy my desire to play again, because I was having THE WORST TIME figuring out how to get Acid Armor on Dragalge, because I couldn't find a link to the Water 1 egg group...and then a dude on GameFAQs told me Shellos/Gastrodon is in both Amorphous & Water 1. And amazingly, someone on my flist had a Gastrodon in their Friend Safari, so WOO HOO!

Said GameFAQs poster then proceeded to mention that substitute would probably be a better move than Acid Armor for stalling, but I have already committed to egg breeding for Acid Armor so, whatever???

Mostly going the poison route because Toxic stalling was the only thing that worked against my brother. :P That, and I really want to use Dragalge, it looks cool even if its stats and movepool aren't super-amazing.

In other news, I watched the first Sailor Moon Crystal episode and my reaction is, apparently, quite common: lots of fangirlish/nostalgia driven glee paired with some disappointment that the animation quality is, er, somewhat soulless. Honestly, while I'm not actively following many shows right now, Crystal's animation is some of the laziest I've seen in the past three years. (I would say it's the laziest, but I did watch Blazblue Alter Memory, so...) I can't think of another current show that is so static. Did all of the animation budget go to...hair? cuz most of the time, that's the only thing moving.

I hear the second episode is better animation-wise, though, so fingers crossed that this is just a pilot episode problem.

I've been hoping that Jadeite might get more development than he did in the original series but I wouldn't be surprised if that were not the case, given the shorter run schedule--Rei's supposed to come in ep. 3, which means Jadeite is not long for this world--and also, approximately no one cares about Jadeite. :c
