NaBloPoMo Day 27: The Longest 30 Days Meme, part 11

I spent most of today cleaning the house. On one hand, I'm pretty proud of the newly-shiny kitchen counter and empty sink. On the other hand, there is still a lot of work to be done and ugh i don't want to dooooooooooo eeeeeeeeeet tomorrow. /whine

I finished the kitchen a lot later than I expected (partially because I got distracted by silly interwebs things, whoops) so today's entry is going to be pretty short. Thank goodness for the 30 Days music meme that I still haven't finished! :P

So this one probably requires some explanation...

I first watched Serial Experiments Lain when I was in high school. It left a pretty strong impression on me, although not in a traditional way. To be honest, I don't remember most of the plot aside from the ending--but the music and art direction completely blew me away, and the series' powerful sense of loneliness mirrored a lot of my personal feelings at the time.

I've never felt a compelling need to rewatch the series, but when I'm feeling very lonely or depressed I often find myself digging up yoshitoshi ABe's Lain artbook, or listening to the series soundtrack. Kiri no Ijigen, especially, hits an eerie emotional chord in me that isn't exactly pleasant, but isn't unwelcome, either. It's not really a guilty feel, it's more...an uncomfortable melancholy? Anyway, I can't really think of a song that makes me feel guilty but this is something that comes close.
