My brother and I have friends from Massachusetts over for the weekend. Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot to do up here, so we ended up channel-surfing while waiting for my brother to finish giving saxophone lessons. Apparently the Cartoon Network is showing live-action movies now? Like, we made the dubious decision to watch their 'premiere' of, erm, National Treasure. At least, we watched until it became too terrible to stand, then we flipped it to the Food Network and watched Thanksgiving-themed episodes of Chopped. Apparently dried oysters are a Thanksgiving food? :S
All that TV watching meant we also viewed a lot of Christmas commercials, and by that I mean there were a lot of toy commercials we were supposed to buy for our non-existent children. Notable standouts:
-A baby that eats food and then poops it out. I thought the pooping baby doll had gone out of fashion years ago, but apparently they're still a thing! Props to whoever decided that the kids in the commercial had to feed the baby doll pea soup, so that the baby poop would be an appropriately disgusting green. It was an inspired touch.
-One of those toy cars kids can ride, which normally wouldn't be particularly unique--but THIS car has lots of flashing lights and plays loud, annoying rock music whenever it's on. The commercial was only 30 seconds long but that was enough to make me hate the small child happily rolling around in the Rage-Inducing Mobile. My condolences to any family that makes the mistake of purchasing the nightmare car this year.
-A Direct-to-
When my brother got back we went out for a very late dinner, which was mostly uneventful but did feature fried pickles (yay!) and an aggressively mediocre rock band. (boo!) We also saw a woman take off most of her clothing in actually freezing weather, which was weird even for a Saturday night.
My original intent for this entry was to bitch about certain Tumblr practices, but I am just too tired to passive-aggressively rage against a service I use a lot. I guess that will just have to wait until tomorrow, or until I'm in a ranting mood again. :p

Oh, and which kind of saxophone does your brother play, if you don't mind me asking?

He plays the alto and tenor, mostly, but he can also play the soprano sax. (He just doesn't have much reason to.) I'm not sure if he can play the baritone sax--I know he doesn't have one, but he might have had some exposure to it when he was in college.

Oh, cool! I used to play alto and bari sax myself, but it's been a while since I last took either up. I was always more in it for the social aspect than the actual love of music, haha.
