terabient: Anime-styled profile pic that is kinda, sorta like me (Resident Evil: Leon - what?)
So someone posted a "Least Favorite Ships" thread at GameFAQs. The bulk of it is boring but the first three or so pages alternate between people talking about relationships and people talking about levels that are actual ships. I lol'd, maybe more than I should have. :P

SPEAKING OF SHIPS, I am slightly disappointed in the way some of RE6 character's relationships have shaken out.

Cut for spoilers. I promise there's no pairing or character bashing.

I generally like Leon and Ada's teasing relationship, but in RE6 it got kind of...weird, and I can't quite put my finger on why it bothers me. I found the scene with Leon, Ada, and Simmons cringe-inducing; I think part of it is that it's clearly meant to add a tinge of ~epic, doomed romance~ to Leon and Ada's relationship, and I like them because they're not romantic. Like, I enjoy that Leon becomes something of a confused love-sick puppy around Ada, but doesn't completely lose his head around her, either; I like that Ada clearly has all the power in their interactions and the sense that she helps out Leon entirely because she thinks he's cute. I like thinking that maybe, just for the hell of it, Ada drops in on Leon in between missions because hey, why not, and because she likes to know she can tap that whenever she wants. RE6 doesn't nix that interpretation, but the scenes that try to make Leon and Ada's relationship ~deeper~ were mostly annoying to me. They're supposed to be fun and breezy, not some star-crossed lovers shit.

As for Helena, I think she's less a love interest and more like, Leon's best wing man. Seriously, she's more invested in Leon and Ada than Leon is. It's kind of adorable.

So one thing that struck me about Piers is that, when it comes to Chris, he's clearly Chris' subordinate and not a partner. And yeah, that's intentional because uh, Piers is under Chris' command, but I guess this is why I'm kinda lukewarm on Piers as a character, and especially Chris/Piers as a pairing. When it comes to Chris I like it when his partners have equal footing with him, like Jill, Sheva, and Rebecca; Piers is kind of stuck having to follow Chris regardless of what happens, and it makes Piers' irritation with Chris' behavior more...annoying. IDK I feel like if Piers had serious reservations about Chris' leadership in Chapter 3 he could have gotten the BSAA to do something about it. Like, maybe not allow Chris to chase after Ada Wong without any support whatsoever. I dunno, Chris/Piers just doesn't do anything for me; I can see why it's appealing to people, but they just make me go eeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhh. And I'm usually a sucker for these kinds of relationships.

I like that Sheva knew about Chris going AWOL and kept in touch with Piers during his search. (I'm annoyed that I had to search for those dumbass Serpent emblem things to get that note, but whatever.) It does make Jill's total absence (she's not even mentioned by name in the game files!) even more glaring, though. Is she even with the BSAA anymore? And why wouldn't she have sent anything to anyone after Chris went missing? dskljaflnaoiewjhioewroijukl I AM A SAD PANDA. :C
