I swear, if I see one more member of this fucking stupid cast just wander off the fucking farm for no reason (except to get attacked by a 'surprise' zombie) i am going to hunt down these writers and throw rocks at them. obv. they are as braindead as the zombies they don't write enough of so they won't feel it, but it would be cathartic.
So! Latest episode: Everyone is an idiot and Carol remembers that people have more emotions than muted despair for a minute or two and Lori fails at everything some more and a major cast member is killed in gruesome fashion! The last part is the one that makes you think maybe this show is worth watching while the other 95% is a slow, torturous test of your viewer loyalty. I actually took two days to watch this episode as I could not take all of that poorly written arguing in one sitting.
Unsorted thoughts:
-"Should we kill Randall?" is becoming the new "Where's Sophia?", isn't it. I thought the Randall issue would be settled in this episode but it wasn't and now I wonder if they are going to drag out his fate until the end of the season. Uuggghhhh. The Sophia thing was hurt by taking sooooo many episodes to resolve but ultimately worked because there's no way to mess up a zombie kid reveal.
Randall is different because the longer the group waffles around without making a decision the weaker EVERYONE'S argument becomes. And there's only so many times theseposition papers characters can reiterate their views before it becomes a complete waste of everyone's time. The only possible way I can stomach another "Kill Randall or not" discussion is if it ends with someone blowing Randall's (or Shane's) brains out or Randall escaping and going from theoretical threat to a real one.
-I thought the part where Carl throws rocks at the zombie stuck in the swamp was hilarious and then, when the zombie escaped, I was actually concerned he might die. And having that zombie be the one to kill Dale at the end of ep was a good idea even if rest of the lead-up to that event was an exercise in dumb. "OKAY I'M GONNA GO OUT IN THIS FIELD ALONE AT NIGHT AND STARE AT THIS MUTILATED COW UNTIL A ZOMBIE IS RIGHT BEHIND ME."
-Why is T-Dog still on this show? Why does some random person that just kind of popped up on Hershel's farm get to give her opinion on what to do with Randall but nobody even asks T-Dog what he might think? It's like, the writers are too savvy to the old 'Black guy dies first' trope, but they're too crappy to actually write him a part that would make him an interesting character. So he just stands around, literally doing nothing aside from...being. It is almost zen-like, his constant but wholly unnecessary presence.
-So Lori is an overprotective mom except for the moments she's not. I guess her character is somewhat consistent, in that she routinely makes the worst, most unbelievable decisions for no discernible reason except to move the plot forward.
-Darryl is the only one who can get shit done anymore, huh.
-Now that Dale is dead, is anyone going to be the not-shitty person in the ever-present decency vs. survival debate? I guess Hershel or Maggie or Glenn could take over that role. I can see the writers giving it to Andrea, even if it's a rather abrupt character change for her...I don't know. Dale hadn't been written well for awhile, but between the actor and the fact that he wasn't a total asshole/non-presence like so many others, he was the only one who I could even remotely buy taking on the high moral ground that he did.
-Shane only has two acting modes: bug-eyed and screaming, and mumble-ly head-ducking.
-When it was clear that the group would have to shoot Dale, I thought they would have him come back as a zombie to reveal the 'anyone can/will come back as a zombie' plot from the books. The episode before this seemed to hint at that development. I suppose that could still happen...
Totally unrelated: This month I signed up for
writethisfanfic - basically it's a motivation comm. where you can get some outside help for reaching fanfic goals, and I have two I want to finish for
bloodyvalentine by the end of the month. It has been going pretty well, all things considered. I haven't been averaging a lot of words, but I've managed to finish the first draft for one fic (still needs a TON of editing, though) and started on the second today. And I haven't missed a day, which is HUUUUUGE for me. :o I don't know if I can keep it up for the whole month, but honestly, just being able to work on fic for a whole week is kind of a big deal for me. XD
