terabient: SCVI portrait (siegfried)
written for the ten genres meme, with a few tweaks, because i fail at staying within restrictions

original concept is ten genres in ten words or less; here each prompt has a completely random number count. yes, i am terrible awesome!

also, i have seen a few different genre lists used - i stole this one from an insanejournal poster i foolishly forgot to bookmark. :[ but in any case...

1. Action

Setsuka's fingers curl over the cool hilt of her sword. She crouches, a smile touching her full lips as she sizes up the leering man in front of her.

He blinks. She draws her blade.

His eyes are still closed when he falls to the ground, throat slit, and with a flick of her wrist Setsuka cleans her sword of his blood.

2. Childhood

The maid's body lies on the floor, a pool of blood forming under her head. Raphael's father stands next to her, eyes narrowed, back turned to his son. "Who would dare to insult us like this?"

Rapahel tries to speak, but his voice fails him. His breathing is shallow, lungs gasping for air as if the maid is still holding the pillow over his face.

His mother embraces him, but her arms are stiff and cool and clumsy around him, as if she isn't used to the motion. "Don't whimper so, it's distracting," she says, absently running a hand through his ruffled hair before she turns away.

3. Alternate Universe

Sophitia gasps, looking at the deep wounds gouged into her sister's flesh with horror. "What happened, Cassandra?"

"I don't - I'm not sure, really..." Cassandra crumples to the ground, and Sophitia rushes to her side.

"I - I fought Nightmare. I lost. He was going to kill me, I knew he was - but I thought about you and Lucius and our parents, everyone, and I couldn't die..." A wave of pain grips Cassandra momentarily, and her words melt into a sad cry of pain. Sophitia wraps her arms around her sister tenderly, and the dark red blood flowing freely from Cassandra's wounds stains her clothing black.

"How did you stop him?"

"I - I stabbed Soul Edge, I stabbed its eye, and then - I don't know what happened, there was screaming and I hurt so much, and I - I just blacked out. When I woke up I was alone." Cassandra sags in her sister's embrace, exhausted.

"Don't worry, Cassandra, you're home now," Sophitia says; but she looks at Cassandra's tanned skin turning white around her wounds, and a chill runs down her spine.

4. Hurt/Comfort

"Don't do this," Maxi protests. He tries to stand, to push Kilik away, but his weakened body fails him. "You need to look out for yourself. If Kali-Yuga takes in too much of Soul Edge's evil - "

Kilik lowers Maxi's body to the ground. His hands are cool and firm on Maxi's forehead, still hot and fevered from the dark energy coursing through him. "Just trust me, alright? Let me help you for once."

5. Death

The worst part, Xianghua thinks, is that she isn't sure Kilik is dead. Her mind says he must be; logic dictates that nothing could have escaped Ostrheinsburg's destruction.

But her heart's eye did not see him die, and though her mind sometimes rests her heart is always beating, whispering hope.

6. Horror

The only warning Cassandra has is the sound of mocking laughter cutting through the night's silence: then Raphael is in front of her, and the moon is gone, the stars are gone, and the smell of roses and blood overwhelms her.

If she raises her head, her lips will be on his; if she moves forward, his sword in her gut.

7. Humor

"So, uh..." Talim shuffles her feet, her eyes locked on the ground. "...why would Yun-seong take your clothes?"

"Because he's an idiot, that's why," Mi-Na snarls, viciously shredding a bedsheet into something Talim assumes will be wearable. "I lent him White Storm, but he seems to think he owns it, and apparently he didn't even think to check if the pack he stole might have other things I need!"

Talim thinks of Yun-seong opening Mi-Na's pack to find not only his beloved sword, but Mi-Na's undergarments, and she tries to stifle a giggle. "I'm sure, once he realizes what's happened, he'll be sorry and return."

"I don't care how sorry he is. I AM GOING TO KILL HIM. SLOWLY."

8. WAFF

Kamikirimusi hides in the shadows, not wanting the young girl to find her. The girl doesn't seem threatening, but the blades on her arms are wicked and sharp, and Kamikirimusi knows enough about humans to know very few are as kind as they look.

The wind picks up, and the girl tilts her head, leaning into the breeze. With a start Kamikirimusi realizes that the elements speak to the girl in the same way they speak to oni like herself.

The girl turns. "Magandang Umaga," she says, and holds out her hand.

Kamikirimusi doesn't understand the word or the gesture, but she can understand the wide smile gracing the girl's face, and her lonely demon heart grows warmer.

9. Angst

The blacksmith told him the sword's name: Requiem. Siegfried liked that; the whistle of his sword cutting through the air was, after all, the last sound his enemies would ever hear.

That had been years ago, when his soul was not yet hopelessly stained with countless sins; now he holds Requiem with hands steeped in the blood of innocents and knows the song his sword weaves is meant for him.

10. Smut

Hilde did not know she could want something so much; want with such intensity that her body grew weak with it, want until the simple act of breathing became labored, want until the only word her lips can shape is his name.

She didn't know she could be so close to another person, legs haloed around Siegfried's waist, her hands caught frustratingly in his thick blond hair while his hands, his mouth, are somehow everywhere at once.

"Hilde," Siegfried groans into her neck, hot and hungry and desperate: she didn't know she could make him weak like this, either.
