Title: First Fall
Original Fiction
Rating: G
Summary: Children, and a discovery.
---
We didn't know then, about what lay beneath our feet. We were children, and nobody teaches children about the worlds centuries have buried.
So on that day when the ground opened up, exposing a darkness that was full of things that had been lost, neither he nor I thought to run away. The darkness wasn't an empty, swallowing thing, as it often is. Something ancient and massive was sleeping there, waiting to be drawn into the present.
My brother walked forward. Before I could follow, the earth fell on top of him.
That was the last time I saw him.
