so yesterday there were some new character reveals for Soulcalibur V.

guess who is back and deliciously unaged?





Initial thoughts:

-DAT HAT

-lol bat-motif. for serious, Namdai. you've just like, out-batted Batman. it's getting a ~little ridiculous.
-the concept art looks wonderful but the 3D model is...underwhelming?
-that Raphael is still 32 physically and Siegfried is uh...39? 40? how many years is this time gap again makes my irrational fangirl heart flutter for reasons I cannot discern yet. But the answer probably involves a whole lot of porn!fic.
-seriously. DAT HAT.

and with this bit of news revealed, I am going to bury my head in the sand and not look at anything SC5 related until the game is out. I admit I am doing so in part to avoid all the stupid, stupid speculation/fan theories/awful photoshops that sequels inevitably get prior to release. (I'm okay with going crazy with the fan theories, but only *after* the game is out.)

there were some other characters too, like Xianghua's daughter that got swallowed by lotus blossoms and that sentient suit of armor all the fanboys squeal over. i would say something about them but Vampire Hunter Sorel's epic pimp hat has deservedly sucked up all my fannish glee.

Omg xD I subscribed to SC's page, why was this not posted to my wall?

The shadow cast by the hat definitely helps, and that wind. The hat looks smaller on the game model and his pose is...not as thrilling? XD

I'm also disappointed with Siegfried getting old. They could have used a similar excuse (as Ivy's) to stop him from aging -.- Maybe they'll offer a younger version of him...

I don't know? Though from what I've experienced, Facebook fan pages tend to lag behind more traditional media sites when it comes to posting new info. I would have missed it myself if kizna1200 hadn't posted it on tumblr. :o

I think all of the 3D renders have suffered in comparison to the concept images. Leixia's outfit looks airy and diaphanous in concept, but in-game it appears stiff and clumsy. The same thing is happening with Raphael - his clothing looks like it's made of, you know, actual cloth in the concept art but it's kind of...just hanging there, looking heavy and lacking in detail, in the render.

Maybe it will look better in motion. :c

Hnnnn. I'm still not sure if I ~approve of older Siegfried or not. That he looks far more appealing in the artwork than in-game is not helping. I'm not opposed to him being older physically, but I would like it if his in-game model didn't seem so lazily done. :/ so shallow :p

I was completely resigned to Raphael being dropped from the roster altogether, too.

And then he comes back with the hat he was born to wear.

If I look back at all the games, the renders were nowhere near as great as the concept art, which are the greatest drawings ever xD I was hoping they'd return a bit to the slightly smoother renders of SC2 instead of aiming for super detail of SC4, but I guess that won't happen. Cloth is pretty much disappointing to see animated, if they can do it at all...but omg that hat makes up for everything to date xD

I'm also hoping for some other nice surprises, such as more modes, a longer story, and possibly a retool of the create a character and clothing bonus system I didn't really care for.
