terabient: Raphael gesturing (Soulcalibur: Raphael - Come here)
So hmmmmmmm I have Soulcalibur V now and since I love this series with low-burning but never-extinguished passion I guess it would be a good idea to talk about it.

Here are some UNSORTED THOUGHTS ABOUT EVERYTHING:

-Patroklos is pretty adorable. And a brat. But adorable! Also: a douchebag. But so adorable.

-Okay so there's this line in Story Mode where Patroklos is confronting the, um, essence of Soulcalibur, Elysium. And it looks like Sophitia but like, only wearing napkins, and Patroklos is like "WHO ARE YOU" and Elysium is all "I AM THE IMAGE OF THE MOTHER YOU HAVE DREAMED" or something along those lines, which made me laugh and laugh and laugh, because wow those are some interesting dreams Patroklos is having of his mom, huh.

I'm such a mature individual, I know!

-Pyrrah is maybe the least proactive character in the history of forever. Pyrrah Ω: Hilarious. "OH GOD IT'S FILTHY!" So much craziness.

-Speaking of story mode, it is all Alexandras, all the time. Okay, that's a lie, you do get to play as Z.W.E.I. a few times. But basically you just play through Patroklos' and Pyrrah's shared storyline with some other characters making appearances to help them along. Siegfried is basically a babysitter, Ivy is an inconvenient information booth, the entire cast of characters involved in the "Find Out What the Fuck Happened to Kilik" plot show up for like 2 episodes to make Soulcalibur more, um, Soulcalibur-y, and a whole bunch of characters don't show up at all. So the vast majority of the plots set in motion in the released profiles have zero development and no resolution in the game. It totally blows because I doubt there will be any future resolution in stuff like DLC.

-Brave/Critical Edges are funfunfun~ Some people have been complaining that they take away from the traditional Soulcalibur feel, but I dunno. The meter charges slowly so you generally don't have access to them for the first round, and I think at most you can reasonably hope to pull of 2~3 Edges per match assuming you do not spend it on anything else, like Guard Impacts. And they can be sidestepped/blocked as well, SO. They are far more integral to winning than Critical Finishes in IV, but they aren't absolutely necessary to win. Also, they're flashy and cool-looking. :p

I admit I may be biased because the addition of Brave/Critical Edge really helps out Raphael.

-Speaking of Raphael, his P2 outfit is ~glorious and beautiful~ and I love it to bits.

-Natsu is my favorite new character. She's like a tiny, even more dangerous Taki. Sometimes when I'm playing as her online I feel like I'm cheating because she is just that good. And she has the best stage theme music. Her interactions with Leixia are cute too and I am bummed out that they got pushed aside in the "Soulcalibur: Sophie's Kids Edition" story mode. :/

-Favorite frivolous addition: people yelling at you when you win by Ring Out. Not only do they berate you for doing it, they have multiple quotes if you keep doing it! I'm not sure which I love most: Raphael's "Have you no shaaaaaaaaaaaaaame" or Hilde's "I can still fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight"

No, Hilde, you can't. You fell of the edge of a cliff.

-XIBA: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU

In closing I would like to point out that a day after SCV's release, there is already Z.W.E.I./Patroklos pornfic.

Never change, fandom. :Db
