(fanmix) Music Monday: Red Velvet, One of these Nights
I know it's common to associate songs with characters and ships but I've not done that personally for a long time. A lot of it comes down to the fact that my musical tastes tend towards light and cheerful dance pop while my fictional preferences are sad gay morally grey pretty boys getting in terrible relationships, which isn't the most natural fit for fanmix things.
BUT!!! yesterday I was listening to a kpop ballad, Red Velvet's One of these Nights and when it got to this verse I screamed internally because OMG IT'S LUTHERUNA. THESE ARE THE FEELINGS THIS SHIP IS MEANT TO EVOKE!! An all too brief moment of joy in incalculably long lives, the significance of which is not fully grasped until long after is it gone... 😠I had a moment for sure.

For reference, One of these Nights is a response to the Sewol Ferry sinking. While the song itself is lovely, the music video is something I find a bit...well, I'm not generally one to judge the ways in which people work through inconceivable tragedy, but look, I'm not real comfortable with shots of a grown woman sadly singing in a rainbow LED lifeboat taking on water. Not exactly the imagery that strikes me as a soothing balm to a horrific event but then again, pop music nor ballads are noted for their restraint.
I've wanted to do some general character/pairing analysis lately--to go over the emotions, conflicts, and themes I see as central to understanding them--so idk maybe you'll see some more "image songs" posted about my faves while I plug away at kinkfic. or not! i really shouldn't keep making work for myself like this ;p

lutheruna and sad ballads are definitely made in hell (affectionate) the "let's meet again, one of these nights" verse reminds me of how they had that another short window in EP5 to reunite, but wouldn't that brief and secretive reunion only reopen their wounds? hehe
I'D LOVE TO SEE CHARACTER/SHIP ANALYSIS. again pso2 fandom is dull and boring so i've never seen one... i'll happily eat the heartbreak

I don't see many people explain why they pick the songs they do for fanmixes, and I wish it was more common...though, one reason people make fanmixes is because it's easier to let the music say what you're feeling rather than say it yourself. ^^
ALSO!!! in EP6 Luther presumably sees all of Varuna's last stand and final words. I wonder what Luther would have felt...I think he'd be the only person in the world to really understand why Varuna would choose to die for Shiva even knowing she didn't have any love for him. :') also I think Luther and Varuna are really emotional and the sort to unironically cry over sentimental ballads together so any fanmix for them should be sappy as hell
Sometimes I feel the rise of microblogging and posting daily about fandom has destroyed my ability to write long-form opinion/analysis sort of stuff. I'd like to get back into it but I don't know where I'd start! x_x
