day 07: a song that reminds you of a certain event: Gold Rush, DJ Yoshitaka featuring Michael a la mode
have i mentioned that i am a huge music game nerd? specifically, a huge Konami/Bemani music game nerd? :X
anyway, in 2007 a fabulous arcade, Tokyo Game Action, put on a week-long festival for Bemani music game fans, Bowlmanifest (TGA had a bowling alley X) There were lots of events that week - music performances by composers of various series' music, video game tournaments, BOWLING EVERYWHERE, uh showing Japanese people the dubious joys of Western Massachusetts???? but among the biggest draws was a legitimate, brand-spanking-new Beatmania IIDX machine with the newest installment in the series, IIDX Gold.
Each edition of IIDX has a theme song, and for Gold it was the aptly titled Gold Rush. This song was playing constantly the entire festival - the line for the IIDX machine was HUGE and Gold Rush was one of the first selectable songs.
It also has some truly delightful Engrish lyrics, which greatly contributed to its popularity.
