Yeah, I know. *sighs*

Still, I slept a lot and I'm feeling better today. Still not 100%, but more of a general slightly-off rather than periods of 'omfg I feel like shit whyyy', so! :3 Pretty happy with that.

Got a new USB, and spent some time setting that up, too! It's going to be a USB dedicated to portable programs, because the fuck not, right?? (I made sure to get USB3.0 for it, so might as well take advantage of it...)

Also went for a walk with Mama, which was nice! It was pretty gross out when I got up, but by the time we were walkies it was almost warm, which was pretty great. :3

Tomorrow: more homework, and class. Also I get to clean the fridge out and start moving things around to suit my personal whims, which'll be nice. >D

Outlander Forum -- new community!

Calling all fans of the Outlander books and/or TV series!

I don't have any clever graphics because I am not a clever-graphics person, but with the season 3 premiere fast approaching (September 10!), I invite all Outlander fans to join [community profile] outlander_forum, a discussion community for fans of the Starz TV adaptation and/or Diana Gabaldon's books. Please note that at this time, this is aiming to be purely a discussion forum, not a forum for fanworks (icons, fanfic, etc.) as there are other venues for that. This might change down the road, but for now, the focus will be on discussing the show, the books, and related issues.

All welcome!

Of The Wild

Breath of the Wild has captured my attention in a way no other game has for quite some time. It's just... joyous, in a way? It's filled with so much to explore and do, so many interesting people, so many cool enemies. It's the sort of game where I'll pick a direction and run just to see how far I can go and what I can discover along the way.

The one thing I really don't care for so far is the sandstorms in the Gerudo desert. It's a really obnoxious mechanic, and it makes it so frustrating trying to explore the area. (On the other hand, though: I really like the fact that the desert is burning in the day and freezing at night, rather than just being 'a hot place'. On the other other hand: Gerudo Link outfit is excellent and 100% worth it.)

I'm also getting into a bit of a fic-posting slump since starting my new job. (Previously it was also a writing slump, but I think I'm starting to build my writing muscles up again? Hopefully, at least.) Even with the fic I've got finished, I keep I forgetting to post them over and over again--I've got a couple shorter pieces that could go up, but proofreading them and figuring out tags and titles and summaries... ugh. I'm hoping I'll get a bit better about it once my commute gets a little less obnoxious.

(And, in other less-obnoxious-future-commute news, I went to an Ikea in person for the first time the other day. It is a whole lot to take in, holy cow. I felt like I'd wandered into some mythological labyrinth.)

Related to the above, I've got a whole lot of fic that needs finishing--my WIPs keep breeding like bunnies. I need a fic accountability partner or something, haha.

Today was Visiting People day. Which, okay, I know it's a thing you do for the whole, you know, social bonding thing, but PEOPLE and I still feel like crap and ugh.

(It wasn't even a lot of people, I'm just terrible at this kind of thing.)

My parents are going away on Tuesday, for three months-ish, the lucky assholes, so yeah. Visiting people!

Other than that... I've done shit all homework this weekend, which is. Not great!! Gonna have to try pretty hard to get a bunch done tomorrow; I know if I fall behind I'll regret it pretty hardcore!

small batch icons is dedicated to the idea that less is more.

Much like how the restriction of a hundred words can turn a drabble into a work of art, so our theory is that a posting limit of five icons makes the selected images shine.

For icon makers, this makes coding posts way easier. Plus, there's the bonus of getting to share icons more often, hot off the press.

For icon shoppers, it's the ultimate in browsing convenience.

come on by =)

Discussion: what are you working on this weekend?

If I'm honest with you, I'm probably much too close to this book to have a fair opinion of it. On the other hand, it's a gorgeous, loving, clear-eyed and critical portrait of the world in which I live. In a week that felt hopeless, this book gave me a beautiful and hopeful place to be, and I adored it without reservation.
Powell’s Books beckoned to us in red, black, and white, like a flag for a new America. One that’s educated, homegrown, and all about sustaining local book culture.

Libraries are where nerds like me go to refuel. They are safe-havens where the polluted noise of the outside world, with all the bullies and bro-dudes and anti-feminist rhetoric, is shut out. Libraries have zero tolerance for bullshit. Their walls protect us and keep us safe from all the bastards that have never read a book for fun.

Juliet is a fat 19yo Puerto Rican lesbian writer from the Bronx, spending her summer in Portland, Oregon, interning with Harlowe Brisbane, the white feminist author of Raging Flower: Empowering your Pussy by Empowering your Mind. Shenanigans ensue, and they are gloriously, heartbreakingly real: a science fiction writing workshop honoring Octavia Butler; a reading at Powell's that goes horribly wrong; a queer POC party in Miami.

Rivera is brilliant on the rollercoaster that is growing up one or more kinds of "other" and trying to be true to your authentic self before you have quite figured out what that is.
You are your own person, Juliet. If it’s a phase, so what? If it’s your whole life, who cares? You’re destined to evolve and understand yourself in ways you never imagined before.

She is also extremely acute on the specific failures of white feminism. At a moment in history when our alliances may or may not save the world, it's on white women to understand how our thoughtlessness can inflict deep injuries on our best allies. And it's on white women to stop that shit.

This is a first novel and unpolished, but it's a huge shiny diamond full of light and color and my favorite thing I've read in the challenge so far.

So, today I spent ~2 hours after class hanging out with Awesome Tutor, trying to partition my USB.

Which it turns out you can't do, because Windows is a butt!! Or, I mean, you can DO it, but it's not going to solve the problem I have, which is:
This is probably more technical than most people give a fuck about, actually. )

Anyway, so I'm going to either have to get another USB (likely), or just run MSYS2 off my HD while at home and off my student drive while at uni (also likely). I'm probably going to get the second USB no matter what, so if, for example, the uni student drives crash/get erased/go offline/etc. it doesn't matter. Which hasn't been a problem for me before, but I also almost never touch mine, and I've heard that at least a few years ago was a big problem (which is why tutors have been very much DON'T RELY ON YOUR STUDENT DRIVE when talking about saving/backing up your work).

SO BASICALLY: today has been very ridiculous, in ways that only happen when computers are involved. Also informative! But deeply ridiculous. Computers!!!
