Still behind on The Walking Dead, but only by one episode by now! Well, a little less than one episode, because I did watch the beginning of the most recent ep. with my brother - but I left when it became obvious the rest of the episode was going to be another fucking morality play on that fucking farm. God, I hate that farm.

I have so many ~feelings~ about The Walking Dead - I want to like it because it's a high-production-value, serious zombie/post-apocalyptic show, but it's got so many problems, the most obvious being the overbaked conflict and poor characterization. A show where zombies are everywhere shouldn't suffer from a lack of urgency, nor should an ensemble cast have such a difficult time defining characters, but The Walking Dead is terrible at things it needs to be good at. I mean, ffs, does Lori even have a character beyond Obvious Plot Device? Her decisions only make sense if you realize that they are necessary to drive the plot forward, or, even worse, to manufacture extra drama. It's the zombie apocalypse, you shouldn't need the most visible female character to act like a brainless fool to escalate drama. :/

Dale's beginning to suffer from cliche writing as well, all he does now is articulate plot points. And uh, I wish I didn't have to say it but obviously no one on the writing staff gives a fuck about T-Dog. What happened to that whole subplot where he brought up the not-unfounded idea that the rest of the group wasn't particularly concerned about his welfare, compared to that of the others? I mean, damn.

Regardless, I will still continue to watch, if slowly and in bits and pieces. If only because of Glenn, and I guess Rick maybe? And when the show does stop wallowing in poorly developed melodrama and back to the threat of zombies and/or murderous crazy survivor groups, it gets really good.
